Saint Patrick’s Day Origin:

Saint Patrick’s Day Origin.

St. Patrick’s Day celebrates the Roman Catholic feast day of the patron saint of Ireland. St. Patrick died on March 17, 461. But did you know that he wasn’t even Irish? Here are some fun facts about St. Patrick and some activities you can use to teach about his day.

History:

Patrick’s birthname was Maewyn. He was born in Roman Britain. He was kidnapped into slavery and brought to Ireland.

He escapted to a monastery in Gaul (France) and converted to Christianity. He went back to Ireland in 432 as a missionary. While Christianity had already taken hold in the country, tradition has it that Patrick confronted the Druids at Tara and abolished their pagan rites, making Christianity more widespread.

Patrick became a bishop and after his death was named Ireland’s patron saint. Celebrations in Ireland were understated though. When the Irish emigrated to the U.S., they created the bigger celebrations and parades known today.

Eighteenth century Irish soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary War held the first St. Patrick Day parades. The celebrations became a way for the Irish to connect with their roots after they moved to America.

Fun Facts:

The shamrock: According to legend St. Patrick used the three leaf clover (or shamrock) to explain the Trinity.

Dyeing the river green: The practice of dyeing the river green started in Chicago in 1962, when city officials decided to dye a portion of the Chicago River green.

Corn beef and cabbage: This is an Irish American dish. Irish Americans were so poor they could not afford certain meals. On St. Patrick’s Day, the best meal they could afford was beef and cabbage. It became a staple for the holiday.

Simi Valley & Friends:It’s only cake.

Its only cake. And sometimes people make mistakes.

I remember my 13th birthday. It was going to be a big deal as a family gathering was going to be had at a park in Simi Valley. And all my relatives were going to be there. It was going to be good and I was totally pumped and looking forward to it. Even though my birthday was falling on a Thursday, we were going to celebrate it on Saturday. The only thing I really asked for were a pair of ankle top boots I had seen at Kmart. Texas Steer brand if I remember right. Doesn’t seem like a lot. But I was an easy kid. And by that age I was pretty much done with toys. I was all about doing stuff and eating hamburgers.

It was exciting. Early on Saturday mom was busy boiling potato’s so she could make potato salad for the party. We were going to hold it at Oak Park in Simi. A small obscure little park off Arroyo Drive which was one of the back ways into Simi before the freeway was built. I remember my mom on the phone calling to my aunts to make sure what was going to be taken for the Barbecue. There was going to be chicken and steak and chips and salsa and of course birthday cake.

I was dying with excitement as we loaded up the car and started to make our way there. Once there I helped find tables and started to get busy putting down table cloths and other party stuff. As time went on family and cousins started to arrive. When my cousins got there it was on…we would take off and go exploring. While the adults would sit around and get things started like the cooking of the meat. I watched as my uncles started to pop open the beers and make man talk. While my mom and my Aunt Sarah were putting things together. My Aunt Angie was tasked with the job of picking up the cake which was coming.

After about an hour…we were hungry and it was time to eat. Being late March, the weather was great. Not hot and we had shade from one of the giant oak trees there. After everyone ate it was time for cake. WOW! What a surprise….a whole sheet of cake, Not a quarter…or a half but a whole sheet. I had the biggest smile as it was set in front of me. After opening up my gifts. It was time to cut the cake. I blew out the candles and them my mom cut a piece for me. As I started to eat the cake it tasted kind of different. Not bad…just different. My mom noticed and asked what was wrong with it. I said it tasted weird. After asking my aunt what kind of cake it was…she said it was Chocolate cake with champagne filling. Since I wasn’t liking it too much. my mom got mad at my aunt and gave her a light scolding over it..

I felt bad and could see that my aunts feelings were hurt as she got up to go smoke a cigarette facing away from the group 30 feet away. Just my looking at her from the back I could see she was wiping tears away between puffs on her smoke. I loved my aunt . I felt bad that she was hurt and I was mad at my mom for making her cry. I got up and walked over to her with a fresh piece with two forks. And I told her it wasn’t bad..it was just different. And the more I ate…the more I liked it. She flicked her smoke and immediately hugged me as she cried into my shoulder while saying I’m sorry mijo ..I didn’t know. Its OK aunt Angie.

I gave her a napkin to wipe her tears and said…there’s more chicken. Lets go have some. She sat with me at the table and we ate together. Her husband Gill must have seen the whole thing because he came and put his hand on my shoulder and squeezed it gently. I know he saw my aunt Angie cry and it probably hut him to see it. Later my mom must have sensed I was a little mad at her and she asked me why. Because you made aunt Angie cry. And she means more to me than any dumb cake in the world. She felt bad and called later when we got home to say she was sorry.

When my aunt Angie passed away about 4 years ago. I cried as much as I did when my mom passed. She was the cool aunt, the fun one who did the string tied to my tooth and door knob trick to pull a lose baby tooth when I was 9. All I can say is peoples feelings matter more than any material thing that can always be fixed or replaced. Now…whenever I have a piece of champagne cake I always try and get a second piece.

I like it that much now

Appreciate others who sacrifice for you:

A young man went to seek an important position at a large printing company. He passed the initial interview and was going to meet the director for the final interview. The director saw his resume, it was excellent. And asked,’

“Have you received a scholarship for school?” The boy replied, “No”.
‘It was your father who paid for your studies? ” Yes.’ He replied.
‘Where does your father work? ‘ ‘My father is a Blacksmith’

The Director asked the young man to show him his hands.
The young man showed a pair of hands soft and perfect.
‘Have you ever helped your parents at their job? ‘
‘Never, my parents always wanted me to study and read more books. Besides, he can do the job better than me.

The director said:
‘I have got a request: When you go home today, go and wash the hands of your father and then come see me tomorrow morning.’

The young man felt his chance to get the job was high.

When he returned to his house he asked his father if he would allow him to wash his hands.

His father felt strange, happy, but with mixed feelings and showed his hands to his son. The young man washed his hands, little by little. It was the first time that he noticed his father’s hands were wrinkled and they had so many scars. Some bruises were so painful that his skin shuddered when he touched them.

This was the first time that the young man recognized what it meant for this pair of hands to work every day to be able to pay for his studies. The bruises on the hands were the price that his father payed for his education, his school activities and his future.

After cleaning his father’s hands the young man stood in silence and began to tidy and clean up the workshop. That night, father and son talked for a long time.

The next morning, the young man went to the office of the director.
The Director noticed the tears in the eyes of the young man when He asked him,

‘Can you tell me what you did and what you learned yesterday at your house?’
The boy replied: ‘I washed my father’s hands and when I finished I stayed and cleaned his workshop.’

‘Now I know what it is to appreciate and recognize that without my parents, I would not be who I am today. By helping my father I now realize how difficult and hard it is to do something on my own. I have come to appreciate the importance and the value in helping my family.

The director said, “This is what I look for in my people. I want to hire someone who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the hardship others go through to accomplish things, and a person who realizes that money is not his only goal in life”.

‘You are hired’.

A child that has been coddled, protected and given everything he or she wants, develops a mentality of “I have the right” and will always put himself or herself first, ignoring the efforts of parents, family and friends. If we are this type of protective parent are we really showing love or are we helping to destroy our children?

You can give your child their own room in a big house, good food, a computer, tablet, cell phone, and a big screen TV, but when you’re washing the floor or painting a wall, children need to experience that too.

After eating, have them wash the dishes with their brothers and sisters, let them fold laundry or cook with you, pull weeds or mow the lawn. You are not doing this because you are poor and can’t afford help. You are doing this because you love them and want them to understand certain things about life.

Children need to learn to appreciate the amount of effort it takes to do a job right. They need to experience the difficulties in life that people must overcome to be successful and they must learn about failure to be able to succeed.

Children must also learn how to work and play with others and that they will not always win, but they can always work harder to reach their goals. If they’ve done their best, then they can take pride in all the effort they put forth.

Life is about giving and serving and these qualities are taught in our homes.

Love Suffers Long:

Love suffers long, and is kind; Love envieth not; Love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;Rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Bares all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.
LOVE IS FORGIVING, IT SEES NO WRONGS AND KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS,IT LOOKS BEYOND FAULTS AND FINDS THE NEED.WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS LOVE,WHAT WE ALL NEED NOW IS LOVE.

IZZY THE CAT:

Izzy the cat:

Izzy was adopted by Ann; Izzy was dropped off at a car wash venturing out for the first time leaving her mama and siblings behind, but she saw Ann and it was love at first sight. Izzy being curious in nature, and a brave cat at that she took to Ann right off the bat, and Ann took her under her wing.

Izzy and Ann drove away in a SUV. Izzy crawled up on Ann’s shoulder as they drove down the road, navigating to the place where she calls home.

Papa did not know Ann was bringing a new kitten home, but grew to love her as his own.

As kittens come, Izzy is lots of fun. Izzy likes to hide, jump, and play. Izzy and Ann have fun all day. Izzy does not go outside by herself because wild animals might just make her a kitty ghost.

Izzy likes to venture outside, it is a big world for Izzy with acres of green grass to roam, and she feels so lucky that this is her home. She has big tall trees to climb, leaves to pounce on, bugs to chase and rabbits to try and chase, but can’t quite get in her reach because she is attached to a leash.

Izzy does not give Ann much time to be left alone, she sits and meows, and meows to go outside to see what she can do; when Ann grabs that leash Izzy knows what this means, and she is so excited to see what ventures shell encounter for the day.

“I can run and jump and play says Izzy, just like my two sister’s who are dog’s.” I swat their tails and run away.” “I sneak and drink their water, and smile and giggle as I am doing.” ” I am Izzy the cat, and Ann sometimes calls me a brat, but loves me at that.” ” Ann sometimes has to leave me, and as I watch her go I am sad and all alone, but then I look around and go to town jumping on the bed, roughing up the pillows, and chew on the blankets.” ” I gaze out the window, and wait, so I can get my vittles and have my Ann back.” ” I am Izzy the cat.”

Transparent Post:

*Transparent post*😳
So many reasons to not feel you are enough from others. So many reasons to pull away from people that you think are your friends or family. So many reasons to fall apart. So many reasons to not keep pushing to be your truest self.
It’s crazy what life can throw at you & how it can make you feel, act, or respond. The past two years has been such a learning curve for me. Honestly, so many changes, but also so many reasons why I would want to throw in the towel on so many people or things.
I suffer from depression & anxiety. My whole life I have suffered & conquered through these things that feel so fucking deep, you feel know one can, will, or wants to understand you. People literally have said to me, “just be normal or just be happy.” It’s beyond frustrating & really has lead to this post. If you’re still reading this thank you, if not, that’s your decision & I respect that. Again, not everyone can or will understand what I’m feeling or care for that matter & again that’s ok. I just wanted to maybe speak for others who are also suffering from these illnesses.
Its takes so much work & commitment to fight against something that is constant. Which in turn can make you feel either powerful & strong or weak & discouraged & worst of all, feeling not enough for anyone or anything. I do feel happy a lot of the time & feel like, I got this! Then other times, I’m questioning everything.
I am not the smartest, prettiest, or the strongest or suggest that I have the answer to it all, but I love fucking hard. It may not always look pretty, but it is everything that keeps me together. And that is one thing no one can take from me.
I wish people had more compassion for people who are at a constant war within themselves. We are NOT weak humans. We are strong. So PLEASE stop thinking that.To uphold yourself in uncomfortable situations & not fall apart is so hard.
I also though, get why sometimes it’s easier to walk away or push away someone like me. It’s hard & may be uncomfortable to be around someone who’s suffering.
But what I want others to understand is we are NEVER looking for you, someone or something to solve our illness. So, if anything, YOU be normal or happy around people you know that are suffering. We are only wanting others to support us, encourage us, & stand by us in ALL that we are, not just what you want us to be or how you feel “society” thinks we should be. Stop lying to yourself or others that need you the most or pushing us away like we are some disease.
Everyone has a story. Everyone has reasons why they are who they are. Listen more. Judge less. Have more compassion for someone who is different from you or maybe even different from anyone you know or hang out with. LOVE fully. Like really love someone even if they can’t fully love themselves. Dont give up on your friends who are suffering or push them away cause that’s just easier. Its ridiculous how others try to be or look so superior towards others anymore.
I am who I am, & I’m sick of feeling like I need to act or look a certain way for others. This yes, is my own stuff & I am working every day to become more fully in tune with who I am & who God has designed me to be. I use that I suffer from these illnesses as a tool to make myself into the person I know I am meant to be.
I may have to work at it differently than you, but that is ok & I will prevail, with or without you. Love me or hate me, that is absolutely up to you. That is the glory of being your own person. Again, please just stop trying to “fix” others & work on what you can fix within yourself to have more compassion for others who are different from you. Isn’t that what makes this world so incredible?? We are not meant to be like everyone else. We all have our stories to share & make this world worth living in. Please support others & not take them down with your own selfishness & judgement.
I am enough. Praise Jesus, I am enough.

Myocardial Infarction- Heart Attack:

Myocardial Infarction- Heart Attack:

Please pause for 2 minutes and read this:

1. Let’s say it’s 7.25pm and you’re going home (alone of course) after an unusually hard day on the job.
2. You’re really tired, upset and frustrated.
3 Suddenly you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to drag out into your arm and up in to your jaw. You are only about five km from the hospital nearest your home.
4. Unfortunately you don’t know if you’ll be able to make it that far.
5. You have been trained in CPR, but the guy who taught the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself.
6. HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE? Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.
7. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.
8. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital.
9. Tell as many other people as possible about this. It could save their lives!!
10. A cardiologist says If everyone who gets this mail kindly sends it to 10 people, you can bet that we’ll save at least one life.
11. Rather than sending jokes, please… contribute by forwarding this mail which can save a person’s life.
12. If this message comes around you… more than once… please don’t get irritated… You should instead, be happy that you have many friends who care about you & keeps reminding you how to deal with a Heart attack.

A heart attack occurs when one of the heart’s coronary arteries is blocked suddenly or has extremely slow blood flow. A heart attack also is called a myocardial infarction. The usual cause of sudden blockage in a coronary artery is the formation of a blood clot (thrombus).
